Our Library opened in September of 2008. Since then we have grown to include over 12,000 titles of all genres, and we are still growing. Our Library is open for lessons every school day and teachers may bring their classes to the Library for research or media use outside of their regularly scheduled Library lessons.
All classes attend a Library lesson each week and all students are permitted to sign books out with their individual accounts and take books home. Students may select from a variety of picture books, novels and chapter books and non-fiction texts.
Where our take-home reading programme from the classrooms is used to develop specific skills, our Library take-home programme fosters a love of reading where students make their own selections of books based on their own individual interests and reading level. Younger students are assisted in their selection by the Librarian and Assistant Teachers.
The library will continue to expand its main collections on an annual basis to meet learning needs of our school. Our library also hosts our annual Bookaburra Wish List visit. These visits allow students to create wish lists by selecting one to two books from Bookaburra that they would like placed in the library, helping our collection to grow with their wishes.
